COMBAT CLASS HISTORY

Dancer
9 Years
Wolfram's father started training him in the discipline when he was 7, but he gave up out of the frustration of not being as graceful as his younger brother. His aim was good so he continued using chakrams, just not dancing. At age 12 he accepted training from his brother, who was more patient than their father. That continued until age 21.
Afterward, Wolf tended to use the skills he learned in combat to throw the occasional projectile or help him dodge attacks. His ability to evade gracefully then aim a projectile came in very handy during his fight with "the Griffin" after he'd shattered Wolfram's rapier.Wolf formally picked the class back up in Stormblood, out of nostalgia at being back in his homeland as well as to show off a bit in front of his "friend" Raubahn.He... May have also used his dance skills to make money in Eulmore. 🤫Swordsman
20 Years
His grandfather trained him to use various different blades like rapier, longsword, scimitar, and kilij from age 7 until his death when Wolf was 15. His favorites were rapier and longsword but he tended to favor the rapier as it was lighter and allowed more agile movement. I say 20 years but really it's more like 33 given he used a sword at all times. Even as a conjurer, he kept up his practice with blades.
Conjurer
6 Years
At age 27 after he and Raubahn broke up Wolf moved to Gridania and joined the conjurer's guild. He thought being a healer would help him to be a good person. He also had another motivation... for something that wouldn't happen until Stormblood. His natural affinity for magic made him a good healer, but alas he let most of those skills get rusty.
Red Mage
7 Years
This is his main class in the game canon. He met X'Rhun when he was 32 (7 years before ARR) and trained under him before eventually becoming his adventuring companion. He struggled to use dark magic at first because it is very much a trigger given his voidsent-related trauma. He had hoped that if he could wield it in small amounts it would help to build up a tolerance to it. And it worked! He can now use dark and light, without having a panic attack. X'Rhun was very kind and understanding while he was learning. Often asking Wolf why he was torturing himself like that. The RDM class quests are canon but I don't talk about them much because it was one of the worst things he's gone through and I'm a marshmallow. I swear I'm working my way up to it but he loves Arya and X'Rhun very much. They're part of his found family just like the Scions.
Paladin
Time Bubble Shennanigans but it FEELS like about a year.
He didn't do any of the class quests. Instead, he trained with Raubahn to learn gladiator skills/tanking after they were married. He had prior longsword training from his grandfather so it wasn't totally new. Having been a conjurer for 6 years and RDM for 7 he is comfy with light magic so incorporated that with the sword to essentially become a Paladin.

SPELLBLADE

Wolfram doesn't use job stones, he has mixed the skills he’s gained over the past 40 years to create his own fighting class. I call it Spellblade. It’s mainly a mix of Red Mage and Paladin with a little Dancer thrown in.Shortly after their marriage, Raubahn gifted Wolfram a longsword with an aether focus pommel. Joking that he kept breaking his rapiers by blocking with them. Wolf can now switch between DPS and Tank seamlessly. He doesn't use a physical shield and is an evasion-based tank. If one is needed he will cast a small concentrated Magick Barrier in front of him or above him. His tank LB3 is an impenetrable Magick Barrier concentrated directly in front of him, wide enough to shield the party. As for DPS - Rather than casting Jolt he's learned to imbue it into his blade, similar to Tizonia. After a few hits, he's stored up enough aether to dual-cast one of his heavier-hitting spells, which he does using the sword exactly like traditional red mages do the rapier. As such he is a melee-heavy caster. When he builds up enough dark and light aether he unleashes a powerful melee combo that looks more like the paladin combo before leaping back to instant cast his powerful spell combo finisher and then charges right back into melee range. His DPS LB3 is still Vermillion Scourge because it's the BADDEST limit break in the game. He's not a dedicated healer but can assist in a pinch and will often dual-cast VerCure if the healer is busy. Outside of combat if he focuses very hard he can still use his conjury skills like Esuna but he's so rusty he can't pull them off in a fight and as they say - The best mitigation is damage. He's been known to throw the occasional chakram in a pinch, having learned his lesson of not having a backup weapon in his fight with Ilberd. Usually has a few hidden daggers too just in case. The best example of his style with the blade is Geralt in this scene from The Witcher (S1E1). He's very quick and evasive. Very graceful movements.
Blaviken Fight Scene
This one too (but spoilers).
Renfri Fight Scene
While he himself doesn't use job stones, he made one for his class. It's sculpted from Rose Quartz because it's pink like Magick Barrier. The symbol is a mix of the Paladin and Red Mage. He keeps it with him just in case he wants to pass on the knowledge one day. Likely to one of his children! 🥰

Before the Garlean Invasion:
Wolfram's life began at the family's inn outside of a small village near the river west of Rhalgr's Reach in Gyr Abania. His father was a merchant from Thavnair who settled down in Gyr Abania after meeting his mother. His mother's side of the family were descended from Mhachi black mages who had fled to Ala Mhigo during the war of the magi before the great flood.
He liked helping his father cook Thavnairian dishes for the guests. He also had an eye for decorating the inn rooms. However, Wolf couldn't be bothered to do anything that didn't hold his interest and therefore spent most of his time reading books or playing soldiers with his younger siblings. Education wasn't a priority for the family, but he was taught to read the common tongue.Wolfram wanted to be a swordsman like his maternal grandfather who was killed in battle before Wolf was born. As a teenager he started training with a rapier.Wolf's grandmother was trained in the art of black magic but chose for the practice to end with her. He resented her for not sharing her knowledge. She did however retain her family's translated volumes on summoning voidsent and he often searched for where they were hidden. His family were glad when the mad king was overthrown but had no love for the Garleans.**Age 20 (1557): **
The Garlean soldiers were especially cruel to his family because they refused to give them food and lodging for free. Frustrated at the empire's growing authority and his own feelings of inferiority - Wolf finally discovered his grandmother's old translated Mhachi tomes and started studying them for a way to gain power.
**Age 21 (1558): **
One day a Garlemald captain beat up and humiliated Wolfram's father for not allowing a small platoon of soldiers to stay at the inn for free. Furious with the soldiers, that night he went to an old hut on the edge of town and recklessly summoned a voidsent to imbue him with strength. However, with only inherited ability and no formal training he wasn't strong enough to bind a voidscent and instead was possessed by a hellhound.
With most of the village sleeping peacefully in their beds, the possessed Wolfram made quick work of killing everyone in the village, the Garlean troops, and finally his family. His grandmother, fataly wounded, used her magic against the voidscent within him. She stressed to him with her dying breaths that the hellhound was still bound within him and could not be destroyed by any method known to her, only repressed by his willpower. Horrified at what he'd done, Wolfram ran to the falls near the river to throw himself in. Despite knowing that would be the only way to ensure he never hurt anyone again, he couldn't make himself do it. A part of him selfishly wanted to live. So instead he went from house to house taking what coin he could carry, lit fire to the houses, and fled to the forests of eastern Gridania. It wasn't until the next day that he noticed the deep gash above his left eye, no doubt caused by one of the soldiers attempting to fight back. He hid away from the empire and anyone who could tie him to the massacre. Wolf didn't find out until many years later that the crime was assumed by all to be the work of the Garleans. The Garleans of course blamed a resistance movement.Wolfram remembered every moment of the hellhound's control and despite the images of his family dying by his hand, he often found himself missing that feeling of limitless power. He struggled against the urge to let the voidsent take over for many years. In the woods he survived by robbing sleeping Gridanians traveling alone or killing other bandits since he didn't want to risk retaliation. He took more than he needed and amassed quite a bit of wealth during that time.Perhaps it was living amongst nature or perhaps time was what he needed but eventually he felt in control of himself enough to rejoin society.Age 25 (1562):
Wolfram made his way to Ul'dah, hearing that great fortune could be made betting on fights in the Bloodsands. The moment he laid eyes on The Bull of Ala Mhigo he was entranced by his form and strength. Wolfram made arrangements to meet Raubahn Aldynn, intending to ask about how he learned to fight so well, but after their first conversation he found himself wanting something other than power or riches for the first time in his life. Seeing that the gladiator cared deeply for Ala Mhigo, Wolf presented himself as a fellow patriot who had fled Gyr Abania for the same reasons in order to gain favor. The two bonded over a pint of ale and reminiscing about the homeland that was taken from them. They quickly developed feelings for each other. Despite being grounded in Wolfram's deceit, they had a happy relationship. Raubahn was quite taken with the other man's sense of humor and ability to make light of any situation, which helped to balance his own serious nature. Wolfram saw Raubahn as more than a partner, but as the type of man he wanted to be.
While glad to be with Raubahn and living in society again, being in Ul'dah so close to the thaumaturge guild often brought back bad memories. Wolfram fought against the temptation to release the hellhound but sometimes felt like he was losing control when emotions were high. He had to quickly remove himself from those situations. In times of weakness he longed for the powerful feeling the voidsent had given him.He started dreaming of tearing people apart with clawed hands... and enjoying the patterns the blood made as it dripped down his forearm. Wolf would often awaken to the sounds of his own screaming, yet felt a faint yearning to return. He passed it off to his partner as nightmares about the Garleans. Eventually after one particularly bad incident he felt the need to confide in Raubahn about his past. The Bull realized Wolfram was power hungry and manipulative, not the sympathetic patriot haunted by memories of the Garleans he had pretended to be. The gladiator was disgusted with the selfish and needless risks Wolfram took that resulted in so many of their countrymen dead. He abruptly ended their relationship and told Wolf he would turn him over to the authorities if seen in Thanalan again.Age 27 (1564):
With the loss of his first love and hearing the truth that his actions had been nothing but thoughtless and selfish, Wolfram decided to devote his life to making amends for his past in the hopes of one day winning back Raubahn (ironically not realizing that those motivations were also selfish). With the intention of becoming a healer he moved to an apartment in Gridania to study conjury and perhaps find a way to banish the hellhound. The nightmares got a bit better after returning to the forest.
Wolf struggled with conjuring initially (he assumed due to the darkness inside him), but eventually his will won out and he could wield healing magics. After many years of training he was finally able to go out and do some good.Age 33 (1570):
Wolfram decided to risk his ex's wrath and move back to Ul'dah with the intention of mending things with Raubahn and joining the Immortal Flames as a conjurer. A chance encounter with X'Rhun Tia on the road changed all that.
Wolfram was eager to learn from the red mage as his style combined many of Wolf's interests and could perhaps teach him a means to purge the darkness within himself. He learned a great deal while training with X'Rhun, but was still no closer to banishing the voidsent. It was not time wasted though as learning red magic did help him become more comfortable with black magic and being around it in small amounts only rarely caused him to lose control of his emotions. The nighmares were back in full force though. While he wasn't assisting his mentor, Wolfram was an adventuring red mage helping anyone he came across whilst also searching for a safe way to banish voidsent. As the search continued he grew increasingly depressed and bitter about his fate, but also became much better at hiding it. It wouldn't have been uncommon to see him at a tavern, barmaid on his lap, drunkenly impressing the locals with stories of his travels.

Post 7th Umbral Calamaty

Age 40 (1577):
Events of ARR - During his travels Wolf met with a group of people called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn who made it their mission to defend Eorzea from threats. They enlisted his help on several occassions and he was happy to aid their cause as well as make some new friends. While not a formal member of the organization, his association did afford him certain diplomatic privaledges.
By the time Wolfram finally reconnected with Raubahn he was surprised that his feelings toward the General hadn't changed, but he'd given up on the idea of having someone to spend his life with. He knew he wasn't worthy of any true happiness. Therefore while Raubahn believed Wolfram had made amends for his past and they were on friendly terms, Wolf would never tell him how he still felt. In the fifteen years since their breakup Wolf hadn't truely been with or even thought about another person in that way and doubted he ever would. At his core Wolf believed his soul to be damned for the wrongs he'd done and the people he hurt. Controlling the voidsent within him was more important than any happiness he could want for himself. Wolfram wanted others to see him as a good man, a hero, but no matter how many people he saved he would never believe himself to be 'good' - simply a good actor.Fighting with the Scions had Wolfram face some very dangerous and at times heartbreaking events. Any occasion something emotional happened during that time Wolfram was tempted to give in to the voidsent. Often during moments of grief or weakness that desire for power called to him but was able to fight those urges by thinking of the people who still relied on him. After seeing certain events unfold [RDM class quests and Mhach Raids] Wolfram concluded that trying to banish the hellhound within himself would only risk more people getting hurt. The possibility of losing what was left of his humanity as well as his life was enough to make him give up on finding a cure. That hopelessness allowed him to come to terms with his fate and resolve himself to put as much good out into the world as he could by officially joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Still, no amount of good deeds stopped the nightmares...Events of Stormblood - Helping the Ala Mhigan Resistance was the proudest time in Wolf's life. Liberating his homeland started to heal something within him as if he was finally making amends for his past. While years of despair couldn't just go away overnight, he was finally able to hope for a better future.Working so closely with the Resistance gave Wolfram and Raubahn more time together to form a true friendship instead of a relationship built on a foundation of deceit. Wolfram was in awe of his friend's composure and leadership but mostly of his compassion towards his enemies. The General was glad to have a confidant he didn't have to be strong around and could show his vulnerable side to during some of his most emotional moments and life changes. It was with great reluctance that Wolfram left Gyr Abania once again to tend to his Scion duties.Events of Shadowbringers (vague spoilers) - While adventuring with the Scions, some events required Wolfram to learn more details about the human soul and body connection. This knowledge raised many questions about his own nature, but those questions were put to the backburner as the Scions were once again called upon to combat a great threat.Events of Endwalker (a bit less vague spoilers) - Wolfram's adventures with the Scions led him on several diplomatic visits, one of which was to Thavnair. He quickly grew to love his father's home country and people. In an attempt to feel closer to his heritage he started tatooing himself with henna using designs inspired by his travels around Radz-at-han. His new Thavnairian friends thought he looked a bit foolish but saw that it made him happy and therefore said nothing. ;)On the eve of a fierce battle, Wolfram visited Ala Mhigo and was very pleased to see Raubahn settling so well into his new role. At the war meeting Wolf was excited to finally get to fight after all that diplomacy, but after the battle was won his joy turned to sorrow at seeing the suffering his enemies endured in their own country. At one point a powerful sorcerer possessed Wolf's body and moved his soul into another's. This confirmed his suspicions that there was no voidscent within him.Wolfram didn't even have time to process this earthshattering realization before he was thrust into battle once more. This time, it was his newfound friends in Thavnair that needed his aid. After saving as many as he could from the terrible fate plaguing the land there was a brief respite.Wolf journeyed back to Ala Mhigo at Raubahn's request to tie up a loose end there. They spent many days together fighting the threat and once it had been overcome Wolfram confided in Raubahn about what he had learned regarding the voidscent. That it wasn't there and he didn't know what had become of the thing that had taken his family from him. The General speculated that only a powerful mage could have overcome something like that, and Wolf certainly would have noticed it happen. The only conclusion was that Wolfram's grandmother, knowing his power hungry nature had lied to him before casting it out in an effort to save him from himself repeating a summoning in the future. Heartbroken at the suffering and futile existance he had brought on himself, yet grateful for the lie that had forced him to keep his selfish urges in check all these years - he broke down. Wolfram spent the night drinking heavily and crying in his friend's arms as Raubahn tried to reaasure him that he wasn't that weak and selfish man anymore. The next day he left to join the Scions for the final battle. The final battle for the fate of the world was won with sacrifice but ultimately hope overcame despair. Over the course of helping the Scions save the world Wolfram saw more loss than he had since that cursed night in his youth. When he felt that familiar urge to unleash a dark and terrible power unto his enemies it was almost a comfort to see it was still there inside him. Although not a hellhound as he had been told - simply the scar that trauma etched on his soul. During the final battle he sustained another injury to his face, which he chose not to heal, having gained a new appreciation for scars. The recent experiences convinced him that no one was really "good'. Goodness was a matter of perspective, not an inherent quality. Everyone was just trying to hold onto hope the best they could. The guilt, sadness, and shame of his past would always be a part of him but he decided it was ok to just be broken. His dreams didn't stop, but they became less frequent. He still had a lot to process but he didn't have to go through it alone. Wolfram returned to Ala Mhigo, deciding maybe he didn't have to give up on happiness after all...

Present

Wolfram is currently taking a break from the Scions and adventuring in general. He has several interests.- Wolf and Raubahn began dating again and were eternally bonded shortly after, albeit in secret due to the political issues their partnership could cause between the Scions and the nations of the Eorzean Alliance. Often their outings are interrupted and they're forced to make up excuses ranging from diplomatic meetings to combat training.
- Wolf has started training as a paladin. With Raubahn's tutoring in the combat style and his own skill with magic he's been a quick study. He does refuse to use a shield - preferring a more evasive style of defense given his agility as a red mage, which annoys the shit out of Rau.
- Feeling nostalgic about his work at the family inn, he started an interior design business based out of Ala Mhigo. It's not much, but it brings home enough gil to meet his needs.
- Recently his friend Tataru tasked him with cultivating an island, which has taken up a good amount of time and effort but is now very self-sufficient due to the use of mammets. He likes to take his husband there to relax when the stress of running a country gets to be too much.
- Any other free time is usually spent enjoying the company of his friends. Wolf enjoys cooking dishes for them that he picked up on his travels.
